It all started at a young age...

I watched a movie (more on that later!) with YellowJeepGirl this weekend that brought up all of these memories with one simple word: Y2K.

My mom instilled a good sense of parania, as some would call it, in me. We spent the better part of 1999 preparing for Y2K. We bought shelving and designated a room in the basement as a shelter. We stockpiled it with food, candles, matches, blankets, water and anything else you would need to survive.

Then the reports came in that 2001, was really the Y2K. We saved more. Believe me, it took longer than a year to get through that stockpile!

Now that I have my own house, we are designating space and will start stockpiling at least a few of the essentials. Especially now that a baby is on the way!

Thanks HappyYellowJeepGirl!

We did buy our first house...and it has a basement. I'm sure we can make a connection underground somewhere and add at that bomb shelter.

I was at a conference this past weekend and one attendee was telling me about a student who was doing research on 2012. She said she had a hard time finding reliable resources on this "conspiracy" but after reading the student's paper, she is now a believer too. I suggested she build a bomb shelter. :)

Time Change

As you know, dear readers, yesterday was the day that we "sprang forward" and moved the time ahead 1 hour. Now, when we had a mostly agricultural society, this was a good thing because it gave farmers more daylight in which to harvest their crops. However, over the years we have changed from a rural, farming society to an urban one, and this change is no longer necessary. It has resulted in people's circadian rhythems to be thrown off which makes us all cranky. It is for this reason that I propose that in the bomb shelter we go to bed when it gets dark and get up when it gets light. By doing this we will harmonize our bodies with the earth once more and we will conserve energy, not to mention the fact that we will be happier because we will have more sleep.

Congratulations to Pink Panda

Congratulations to our esteemed fellow survivalist librarian Pink Panda who recently purchased a house with her bomb shelter mate Pedro! Construction on the underground bomb shelter will begin shortly.
